August/September 2018 Newsletter

Hello everyone!!

And welcome to our August/September 2018 Newsletter ..full yet again with more! fabulous- Minibus supported Local Social Trips which our club members can look forward to every week - So...What did we do last month? …

We had the pleasure of meeting the Mayor & Mayoress of Rotherham at one of our meetings, and had time for a chat,.. it’s good to know that they are extremely supportive on Rotherham’s Community Initiative Projects, Volunteers & Groups…...

..We took a Drive & strolled…. to the stunning beauty of the Jurassic Creswell Crags, in North Nottinghamshire, it’s a limestone gorge honeycombed with caves and smaller fissures. Stone tools and remains of animals found in the caves by archaeologists provide evidence for a fascinating story of life during the last Ice Age between 50,000 and 10,000 years ago!!..it holds also; Britain’s only known Ice Age Rock Art, which we studied, and tried to guess what the pictures were; on their interactive videos!!.

We also went for a few drives out, and headed further afield through Sheffield to some country eateries for dinner, such as the Belfry, Drakehouse Mill & the Elmwood Farm Pub for a delicious Carvery!.......Where We thrashed each other out at Beetle Drive!, Dominoes! and Chase the Ace! ….

“ Well.....there were prizes to be won !!! ”

We visited Markham Grange Steam Museum, browsed the Antiques there, then ... had a meal and a relax & time to have a lovely chat in their Steam Engine Cafe….

….Dropped in at the Elsecar Heritage Centre too! - for a walk around their bespoke shops and had a natter and a hot cuppa in their lovely little Brambles Cafe…...…

We had fun at the Ivanhoe center for EYES DOWN ! At Bingo! followed by a tasty 2 course meal in their lovely, friendly cafe - we headed over after, to Thrybergh Country Park for a stroll too!..what a fabulous fun-mixed day!...

We drove up Sheffield to the Wintergardens and The Millennium Gallery, which is an art gallery and museum in the centre of Sheffield, it was opened in April 2001 as part of Sheffield's Heart of the City project. They are always putting on great new exhibitions….they have gift shops, and the cafe downstairs has lovely homemade food, and really friendly, helpful staff!! There’s also a lift with full wheelchair facilities. What more would you want?!

We headed out to Ulleys Reservoir. The reservoir was built in 1871 to provide the town of Rotherham with approximately 180 million gallons (820 million litres) of drinking water per year! We had a stroll in the fresh air then headed over to The Royal Oak for a meal….We also called locally to the Phoenix Sports at Brinsworth, which after a total renovation, looks fab! And their meals are fantastic!!.............
