July/August 2018 Newsletter

Hello everyone!! ...Another Month flown by AGAIN!! ……. welcome to our July/August 2018 Newsletter, ..packed with more! - yes more! - Minibus supported Local Social Trips, for our lovely Club Members 💜 to look forward to every week - So...What did we do last month? … We chose some of Rotherhams locals, such as The Woodman at Flanderwell, The Kimberworth Park, and the lovely recently renovated Phoenix Social Club, for social time... and over to Doncasters Woodbridge Farm Pub for Carvery, and a run out to The Belfry at Sheffield before a browse in Crystal Peaks..It’s always so nice just to sit down isn’t it, & chat with a meal amongst friends in the shady air…

We called off, on another day, to visit Conisbrough Castle Museum, and to a Tea Dance at the Ivanhoe Centre with a very tasty 2 course meal served by the most welcoming staff in their comfy cafe…..

…….. It was lovely to watch everyone dance in their glitzy shoes too 👠 !! woohoo!...

....We slowly strolled….around the beautiful Elsecar Heritage Site for a shopping browse and settled outside in the shaded sunshine at The quaint Pantry Cafe for lunch & cool drinks! …..as it was hot hot HOT !

🏞 We also headed out to Potteric Carr Nature Reserve and visitor centre…….Access to the cafe & shop is very suitable for wheelchairs & all around the fully accessible nature reserve -the nature paths will wind you around a stunning, safe wetland habitat, where you can finish off with a bite to eat on their balcony overlooking the wetlands. Beautiful !

We visited Sheffield’s Industrial Hamlet Museum

It’s a very interesting place to visit, with videos and great volunteer guides giving you the most wonderful stories of how the locals used to live & work so hard. You can learn how steelmaking and the growth of the steel city through the Victorian Era and two world wars, forged both the Sheffield City of today and the world!

Kelham Island was also visited. ..Located in one of the city’s oldest industrial districts, the museum stands on a man-made island over 900 years old!!!

We stepped back in time to the unusual 1920s Mr Straws attraction - and discovered how a grocer's family lived in a Midlands market town. The semi-detached house at number 7, Blyth Grove has remained virtually unchanged since the Straws Family moved here in 1923. For over 60 years they threw little away and chose to live without many of the modern comforts we take for granted today. We marvelled, as our friendly Tour-Guides showed us on each floor.. the treasured possessions and ordinary domestic items that can still be seen exactly where their owners left them! And afterwards?........we had a picnic on the garden ! ...

We checked out...the £17.3 million re-development on Western Park Museum in Sheffield. The museum is wheelchair friendly, and there are seven really great, interesting galleries there, & for all ages too!: the Harold Cantor Gallery; Sheffield Life and Times; History Lab; Arctic World; What On Earth!; Treasures; and Picturing Sheffield. We had a well-deserved rest in their cafe with a nice presented meal, followed by a stroll in the Western Park sunshine with an Icecream....

And…...what are we doing in this August 2018 month ahead?

Planned is some fun on Bingo, Arts & Craft Days, Doncasters Museum & Art, Sheffield’s wintergarden & millenium museum & great cafe, The Jurassic Creswell Craggs & picnic, The Royal Oak at Ulley, Sitwell Arms in Rotherham, The Belfry at Beighton, Markham Grange Garden Center and Steam Engine Cafe..and much much more!!
