February/March 2018
Hi all!
BRRRRR!!!!....- Hey!!...Don't worry about that Beast from the East we had anymore ! - British SUMMERTIME starts officially on the 25th March until 28th October !! and the clocks go forward one hour - HURRAY!!!
Sooo….What did we do last month? Last month, we headed off to the Cooper Gallery in Barnsley to see some contemporary exhibitions and collections of 17th to 20th century paintings, watercolours and drawings, then afterwards for meals and drinks at the Impressions coffee lounge, which I must say, was presented and tasted lovely!. We dropped by locally into a few eateries including the Homestead & Brentwood Hotel for lunches too, and we all learnt how to play Jazz the card game! It certainly got us lot unusually quiet for an hour concentrating!!! , We travelled back to Barnsley a few weeks later, to the Experience Barnsley Museum and Discovery Centre along the huge, long hallways of the Town Hall, for refreshments at their Berneslai Cafe, and to have a tour around their floors of Artefacts & Exhibitions- we had a look at their range of mining related exhibits linking with their ‘Strata’, ….and …..yet again! we got hands-on and had fun as we always do - in their dress up workshops. We always seems to end up in wigs & hats! There’s certainly no age barrier in this fun group!! You wouldn’t believe that two of them in our Monday group are only a month apart in birthdays at 96 years of age!! ….
And…...what are we doing in this month ahead?* Oh! plenty , more different things to do this month!! We have new groups starting from March, and more lovely people joining our wonderful supportive, bespoke clubs, making them still small,...but very friendly and welcoming places to be. We’re starting at Thurcroft at a Book folding crafts session, with hot cuppas followed by a trip to a local pub for a spot of lunch. We’re also having a bash and shouting eyes down! ...at Gala Bingo!! including a bite to eat whilst we play. They have hearing impairment devices provided there for our guests with hearing problems, and so supports them to enjoy the game as much as everyone else. On other weeks, we have other eateries to visit for plenty of hearty nosh, chatter and traditional games to play (yes! we have some new ones!!) . And also for our newer groups, were heading out to museums such as Clifton Park and to the Dukeries Garden & Exhibition Center for a hearty meal and a tour around their interesting collections. Also, we will be visiting some of our doorstep local eateries, such as The King Henry and The Riverside *all subject to opening times and snowy weather conditions!.
